5 days/4 nights – Stunning scenery, gorgeous roads and great riding: pretty much the perfect combination for an unforgettable jungle adventure. With five days up our sleeve, there is plenty of time to get well off the beaten track. We’ll head into the remote mountains of the central highlands and into the famous Phuong Nha National Park – one of Vietnam’s few remaining pockets of old growth forest. Tightly restricted access to the park means you’ll be one a very select few who will get to experience this stunning World Heritage site and the cultures that live within it. To maintain our feeling of seclusion, we’ll take a unique coastal route back to Hoi An, giving the chaos of Highway 1 a wide berth!

DAY 1: COUNTRY RIDING
Hoi An to Bho Hoong (110 km)
Setting off from Hoi An, it is quickly apparent that this is going to be a journey like none other. The Vietnam countryside comes alive in a whole new way as you pass through the fields and villages of Hoi An on a motorbike.

The route takes us away from the coast and into the hills, an area often inaccessible by normal car. As we wind into the mountains we’ll come across ancient Cham ruins and famous American war sites, hopping of our bikes to snap photos and explore the tourist-free areas. Mid afternoon we’ll reach the remote hill-tribe villages set in the spectacular mountain border of Laos. The route crosses over the original Ho Chi Minh Trail giving us the opportunity to walk the same paths as the Vietnamese soldiers defending their country from enemy invasion during the war.

As we wind our way up into the hills towards the Lao border home to the Co Tu minority, we take a break to visit one of the few remaining Co Tu woodcarvers and enjoy a home cooked lunch in his stilted house before continuing our journey deep in to the mountains, meandering through isolated villages where the culture and traditions remain untouched by time making this remote and staggeringly beautiful region home to one of the most authentic hill tribes to remain in Vietnam.

We’ll arrive at Bho Hoong, a traditional Co Tu village where we will stay for the night. Little has changed in the past hundred years in Bho Hoong and it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Central Vietnam. A light trek through the village outskirts takes us into the surrounding jungle and to rivers, where we can go for a refreshing dip. The evening is highlighted by a superb dinner of Co Tu traditional dishes, a traditional cultural performance and a chance to interact with the villager residents, gaining more insight into their rich culture. Afterwards, retreat to your stilted Co Tu hut where the serene setting and clear mountain air will lull you to sleep.

DAY 2: HO CHI MINH TRAIL
Bho Hoong Village to Khe Sanh via A Luoi (235 km)
Rise and shine for day two of our Hoi An Motorbike Adventure. After breakfast in the village, we say goodbye to our hosts and resume our bike ride to Khe Sanh. Today’s journey traverses the historic Ho Chi Minh Highway through lush rainforests and over magnificent mountain passes. Take a refreshing dip in a mountain waterfall at midday, where we’ll break for a picnic lunch.

We begins the afternoon, winding through the A Shau Valley, a ruggedly beautiful valley that became famous during the American War as the site of many battles, the most famous being Khe Sanh, where we stay for the night. Before we check into the hotel we visit the Museum and former combat base, which was under siege for 67 days.

(Accommodation: Hotel ***)
(Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 3: HILL TRIBE COUNTRY
Khe Sanh to Phong Nha/Ke Bang National Park (240 km)
Today’s ride is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Obtaining special military permission, we are able to drive the remote western branch of the Ho Chi Minh Highway through majestic limestone karst and spectacular old-growth jungle. Be amazed at the tenacity of the Vietnamese people during the US war, as this road follows the original Ho Chi Minh Trail through some of the most rugged terrain on Earth.

(Accommodation: Family run guest house)
(Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 4: TUNNELS & TRAILS
Phong Nha/Ke Bang National Park to Hue (220 km)
Driving along Ho Chi Minh Highway East, we arrive at the Vinh Moc tunnels, where an entire village went underground in the 1960s to survive the bombing. After exploring the tunnels, we head to a local beach where you can cool off with a swim.

After lunch we cross the 17th parallel the former North/south divide then drive along the coastline arriving in Hue late afternoon.

(Accommodation: Hotel ***+)
(Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 5: THE COAST ROAD
Hue to Hoi An (190 km)
Rise and shine, it’s time to set off on the final day of our Motorbike Adventure. Today’s bike journey takes us back to Hoi An by a different route, trading in the mountains for Vietnam’s gorgeous coastline. We head east from Hue and then travel parallel to the sea, passing through fishing villages and along pristine sandy beaches for the first part of the drive. The salty air and refreshing sea breezes are a dramatic contrast to the mountain air from the previous days. We’ll stop often to dip our toes in the sea, chat with fishermen and to take photos. At the half way point of our drive we climb to Highway 1’s highest point, Hai Van Pass, where panoramic views of the coast are all around. The road then winds down toward Hoi An, passing through Danang city and along the coastline.
