7 days/6 nights – The Grand Dame! The best central Vietnam has to offer! Our 7 day journey takes us from Hoi An to Phong Nha taking in the very best of everything this part of Vietnam has on show. This Phong Nha national park is one of Vietnam’s few remaining pockets of old growth forest and has been declared a World Heritage site. Tightly restricted access to the park ensures you can enjoy the forest in all its serenity. Experience firsthand the beauty of Vietnam’s rapidly disappearing wilderness, and the cultures and people that call it home. Spend a day exploring Asia’s longest limestone cave or just soaking up the sights, sounds, and scents of the forest. Finish off with a dash of history as we visit famous – and infamous – historic sites, including the notorious Vinh Moc tunnels and the ancient imperial capital of Hue, on our way back to Hoi An, climbing to the top of the Hai Van Pass as we go.

DAY 1: COUNTRYSIDE RIDING
Hoi An to Bho Hoong (110 km)
Setting off from Hoi An, it is quickly apparent that this is going to be a journey like none other. The Vietnam countryside comes alive in a whole new way as you pass through the fields and villages of Hoi An on a motorbike.

The route takes us away from the coast and into the hills, an area often inaccessible by normal car. As we wind into the mountains we’ll come across ancient Cham ruins and famous American war sites, hopping of our bikes to snap photos and explore the tourist-free areas.

As we wind our way up into the hills towards the Lao border home to the Co Tu minority, we take a break to visit one of the few remaining Co Tu woodcarvers and enjoy a home cooked lunch in his stilted house before continuing our journey deep in to the mountains, meandering through isolated villages where the culture and traditions remain untouched by time making this remote and staggeringly beautiful region home to one of the most authentic hill tribes to remain in Vietnam.

We’ll arrive at Bho Hoong, a traditional Co Tu village where we will stay for the night. Little has changed in the past hundred years in Bho Hoong and it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Central Vietnam. A light trek through the village outskirts takes us into the surrounding jungle and to rivers, where we can go for a refreshing dip. The evening is highlighted by a superb dinner of Co Tu traditional dishes, a traditional cultural performance and a chance to interact with the villager residents, gaining more insight into their rich culture. Afterwards, retreat to your stilted Co Tu hut where the serene setting and clear mountain air will lull you to sleep.

Rise and shine for day two of our Hoi An Motorbike Adventure. After breakfast in the village, we say goodbye to our hosts and resume our motorbike ride to Khe Sanh. Today’s journey traverses the historic Ho Chi Minh Highway through lush rainforests and over magnificent mountain passes.Take a refreshing dip in a mountain waterfall at midday, where we’ll break for a picnic lunch.

We begin the afternoon, winding through the A Shau Valley, a ruggedly beautiful valley that became famous during the American War as the site of many battles, the most famous being Khe Sanh, where we stay for the night. Arriving in Khe Sanh, we visit the site of the former marine combat base, capping off an amazing day of riding and history.

Today’s ride is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Obtaining special military permission, we are able to drive the remote western branch of the Ho Chi Minh Highway through majestic limestone karst and spectacular old-growth jungle. Be amazed at the tenacity of the Vietnamese people during the US war, as this road follows the original Ho Chi Minh Trail through some of the most rugged terrain on Earth.

DAY 4: EXPLORE THE NATIONAL PARK
Phong Nha/Ke Bang National Park (120 km)
Wake to the sounds of rural Vietnam. With a day free to explore Phong Nha National Park, we take a morning motorbike ride to the Paradise limestone cave, Asia’s longest limestone cave. Dong Hoi to Hue (200 km)

After lunch we cross the 17th parallel: the former North/south divide then drive along the coastline arriving in Hue late afternoon.

DAY 6: CULTURE & SIGHTS.
City Tour in Hue (40 km)

A delicious vegetarian lunch prepared by Buddhist nuns is served at a local pagoda. After lunch we experience the rural surrounds of Hue, stopping to see traditional handicrafts being made, as well as visiting some US war sites.

DAY 7: THE COAST ROAD
Hue to Hoi An (190 km)
Rise and shine, it’s time to set off on the final day of our Hoi An Motorbike Adventure. Today’s journey takes us back to Hoi An by a different route, trading in the mountains for Vietnam’s gorgeous coastline. We head east from Hue and then travel parallel to the sea, passing through fishing villages and along pristine sandy beaches for the first part of the drive. The salty air and refreshing sea breezes are a dramatic contrast to the mountain air from the previous days. We’ll stop often to dip our toes in the sea, chat with fishermen and to take photos. At the half way point of our drive we climb to Highway 1’s highest point, Hai Van Pass, where panoramic views of the coast are all around. The road then winds down toward Hoi An, passing through Danang city and along the coastline.

Testimonials

Best 7 Days in Vietnam! Having spent just over two weeks touring around Vietnam we can say the 7 days Grand World Heritage Loop tour was definitely the highlight. Every day was different from riding through the winding mountains to travelling down sandy tracks to visiting remote villages and getting involved in the hustle and bustle of the bigger towns.
