6 days/5 nights – This 6 day tour is perfect for people who have a week to spare and want a cool ride. This 6 day adventure offers awesome riding on the premier paved road in Laos as well as a cool mix of unpaved riding to keep things interesting. The tour takes in the Mekong, the incredible Plain of Jars, Buddhist temples as well as loads of local culture and food. Not to mention the scenery and largely off the beaten track areas we visit.

Day 1 – Vientiane Arrival
On arrival in Vientiane, your driver will transfer you from the airport to your hotel. Dinner tonight is with your tour leader and includes a pre-trip briefing.

Day 2 – Vientiane to Thatom/Thasi (225 km on Mixed Roads)
Day one of the ride and we depart after an early breakfast. We ride east along the Mekong and through some quite local towns.We join up with road 13 South and take lunch in Paksan, riverside. We turn north to the hills and cooler air most likely and the road will be mixed conditions until turning to a nice newly paved run. We’ll overnight in either Thatom or Thasi, depending on how our time is running. Accommodation tonight is a clean and locally run guesthouse. Options are limited.

Day 3 – Pak Lay to Phonsavan
It’s an early breakfast today because there is plenty to see. We start heading north on the main road and take our first stop in Old Xieng Khoang and the bombed out Buddha Temple of Wat Piyawat. We ride on to lunch in Phonsavan and then go light gear to Plain of Jars sites 1 and 2. The sites date back to the Iron Age and were heavily bombed during 1964 and 1973 by the United States and bomb clearing continues in areas. Upon returning to town, we’ll visit the Mine Action Group’s offices for a little more info on the legacy of unexploded ordinance from the Indochina wars. Tonight we enjoy a delicious local dinner and drinks.

Day 4 – Phonsavan to Vang Vieng (230 km)
Prepare for an awesome day of riding today! After 230 km of twisted paved road we arrive in Vang Vieng and if our arrival time is before 14:00, you have the option to go tubing down the river or if you prefer, the other option is for a small loop around the west side of town on dirt roads along the karst ridgelines. Dinner tonight in Vang Vieng – local style.

Day 5 – Vang Vieng to Vientiane (210 km)
Today we can sleep a little later before having breakfast and heading south on the main road. We are on mostly paved road and will pass the Ngam Ngum Reservoir for lunch. Riding south again, we’ll divert off the main road up to ride into town on a few dirt roads to the northeast of Vientiane.
